Gadgets that are bound to appeal to women on all counts

Geekdom is no longer the domain of males alone. As women discover their inner technophile, companies have lost no time in wooing them with stylish devices. These gadgets score high on visual appeal—sleek looks, clean lines—and, in most cases, easy portability. They also earn brownie points on functionality as these devices are brimming with features that would make any gadget guru salivate, irrespective of gender.

Here's a look at our top picks for women across various product categories.

Tablet Apple iPad2 (Rs 24,500 onwards)
The beautiful 9.7-inch display, a huge library of apps, seamless performance and a battery life that is the best in its class are just few of the reasons to buy the iPad2. It is one of the slimmest tablets available, and with a weight of just 600 gm, is easy enough to hold or slide into a large handbag. The primary camera is handy to click a photo or shoot a video, while the secondary one can be used for video calling through FaceTime or Skype.

Combine it with... A stylish case. We recommend either Apple's smart cover or a folio case from Griffin, Capdase, Gecko or Amzer.

Camera Sony CyberShot TX55 (Rs 19,990)

The TX55 combines classy looks and impressive features in a stylish, super-slim metallic body. Just to give you an idea, it's slimmer than a single AA battery and weighs just 110 gm. It has a 3.3-inch touchscreen display, shoots images with a 16-megapixel resolution, has a 5x optical zoom and records full HD video. The ace up its sleeve: it can take photos while recording video.

Combine it with... A high-speed microSDHC card from Sony/Sandisk, with at least 8 GB storage, so that you don't run out of space too soon.

e-Reader Amazon Kindle Touch 3G (Rs 10,400)

The Kindle Touch has a 6-inch e-ink touchscreen display, which makes it easy to operate with minimal strain on the eyes. The 3G variant offers free 3G data access for life, so that you can purchase books on the move. It weighs 220 gm, can store over 3,000 books, and the battery can last up to two months on a full charge. If you want to save money, get the Wi-Fi version for $139 (about Rs 7,700).

Combine it with... Amazon's leather cover with a built-in LED reading light, which costs $60 (about Rs 3,300). As the Kindle does not have a backlit screen, you need an external light to read in the dark.

All-in-one desktop Lenovo IdeaCentre A320 (Rs 53,990)

The glossy white finish and a 21.5-inch, high-definition, LED display make the A320 one of the most stylish all-in-one desktops in the market today. Inside, you'll find a second generation Intel Core i5 processor, up to 8 GB RAM and a capacious 750 GB hard drive. This all-in-one works on Windows Home Premium to deliver superb performance for your computing needs. The price includes wireless Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to keep your desktop free from clutter.

Combine it with... A 2.1 (two channel with a subwoofer) speaker system like the Logitech Z523 or Altec Lansing Octane 7. An all-in-one gadget tends to have weak speakers because of size constraints. Adding an amplified speaker set will give you much better and louder sound for music, movies and gaming

Laptop Lenovo Ideapad U410 (Rs 52,990 onwards)

This ultrabook features a 14-inch screen and comes in a variety of colours with a full metal casing, which makes it look like a book when closed. Specifications include a third generation Intel Core processor, 4 GB RAM and up to 1 TB storage. Power users will appreciate the dedicated Nvidia 1 GB graphics chip, while the 0.8-inch design and light weight (1.8 kg) will find favour with most women. Lenovo claims up to 9 hours of battery life—ample for an average day's work.

Combine it with... An external DVD drive (if you need to read/write discs) or a stylish laptop sleeve. Since the U410 is an ultrabook, it cannot exceed a certain thickness and, therefore, skips out on the optical drive. The sleeve will make it easy to tote without making it look like you're carrying a bulky laptop.

Smartphone Samsung Galaxy S Advance (Rs 23,250)

With an ergonomic curved design that makes it easy to hold, the Galaxy S Advance is a slim and stylish Android smartphone that is lightweight (120 gm). It has a gorgeous 4-inch super Amoled display and is powered by a dual core processor. The 5-megapixel camera at the rear, with an LED flash, takes good quality images and records videos in 720p HD resolution. The icing on the cake is the option to use Google Playstore as well as Samsung's own app store, providing access to a plethora of apps.

Combine it with... Plantronics BackBeat Go stereo Bluetooth headset, which costs Rs 4,990 and has a noise cancelling in-ear design. The tangle-free wire has an inbuilt microphone so that you can use the headset for voice calls as well as multimedia.
